Top Five Best-Selling Products of 2022
Top Five Best-Selling Products of 2022
This past year was one of the best for the Kingz team. Our athletes had some amazing achievements, our creative team was on fire, and our warehouse was bustling with activity.
The last one really had us excited… not because it meant we were slinging more products. That’s cool, too. But what it meant was that the jiu-jitsu community had recovered from the devastation of COVID – the “lost years” – and BJJ was growing worldwide.
THAT is exciting. More people on the mat mean more people with whom to share this amazing community, and more lives saved by the power of jiu-jitsu.
So, with the end of the year upon us, we thought we’d examine our top selling products. What are they, and what might that say about the BJJ community? Read on…
No. 5: Ranked Performance S/S Rashguard
Coming in at number five, was our Ranked Performance Short Sleeve Rashguard. This was interesting to us. In past years, our top five list has been dominated by gis, both the most affordable ones, and the hottest new designs of the year.
We believe this suggests that the No-Gi jiu-jitsu is starting to become more and more popular. This makes sense. This was a huge year for No-Gi jiu-jitsu, with the most anticipated – and arguably epic – ADCC World Championships held just last September.
But why a ranked rashguard? Just as a belt indicates level of attainment, a ranked rash guard lets your training partners know where you’re at in your jiu-jitsu journey.
No. 4: Ultralight 2.0 Jiu Jitsu Gi - White
Number four on our list is the Ultralight 2.0 Jiu-Jitsu Gi in white. There’s no surpise on this one. When we first launched the Ultralight, it quickly became one of our most popular gis. It has been on the top list every year since then.
Why? It’s simply a great gi. One of the lightest BJJ gis in our collection, and featuring ultra-lightweight ripstop pants, it’s a fan favorite with both everyday mat warriors, as well as competitors concerned about the weight scale. Additionally, white has always been the best-selling color. This is partly due to tradition, partly due to academy regulations, and maybe even partly due to the fact that every belt color looks great with it (because, yes, that’s a consideration).
No. 3: Kore Shorts
Number three on the list also surprised us: the Kore Shorts. Just as with the Ranked Performance Rashguard, this suggests the rapid growth of No-Gi jiu-jitsu. Which is awesome.
But then… why did the shorts rank higher than the rashguard? We feel this is in line with general clothing trends. Think about it… there are infinitely more “top” variations and options among everyday apparel selections. This is because your shirt often says much more about your personal style than, say, your jeans. Same thing with your rash guard and shorts. You might have several different rash guards, but you’ll tend to stick one style of shorts; something that’s comfortable, goes with everything, and makes your butt look good. That’s the Kore Shorts.
No. 2: The ONE Jiu Jitsu Gi – White
This one was a no-brainer for us. In fact, we’d be surprised if this gi ever fails to make the “Top Five” every year into perpetuity.
The One Jiu-Jitsu Gi was developed for one purpose: to provide the community with an affordable high-quality gi. Why? Because we feel that everyone – no matter where they come from, what they do, and how big their wallet is – deserves to benefit from the power of jiu-jitsu. Not being able to afford a jiu-jitsu gi should not be what’s preventing people from stepping on the mat. But not only is it a fantastic entry-level gi, it’s also a serious workhorse.
No. 1: The ONE Jiu Jitsu Gi – Black
Our top-selling product of 2022 was also the One… but in black! Really, this surprised us. We could have easily seen No. 1 and No. 2 flip flopped.
Why black? This might be partly due to the black colorway being so darn fresh looking. The minimal, crisp white embroidered details on the all black body sets it apart from a lot of black gis. I mean, you could probably attend a black-tie event in this thing. For sure, it would be James Bond’s favorite gi. We also think you can get away with a lot more use with the black colorway. Think about it: when a white gi gets dingy, you’ll start to get weird looks and/or hints from your training partners. But unless it’s tattered and faded, the black gi won’t get that “I’ve worn this beyond its suggested lifespan” look.
